On January 22, 2025, Tumblr officially launched Tumblr TV, introducing it as a new tab at the top of its app.
This feature, which began as an experimental GIF discovery tool in 2015, has now been expanded to include video content.
For new users, the Tumblr TV tab is enabled by default in the third position. Existing users can activate it through the Dashboard Tabs configuration. Upon accessing the tab, users are presented with a grid of videos and GIFs. Tapping on any item allows for interactions such as liking, commenting, reposting, or sharing. Navigation through the content is facilitated by a swipe-up feature, similar to other short-form video platforms.
Despite the inclusion of video content, Tumblr TV remains predominantly GIF-focused. While comparisons to platforms like TikTok may arise, especially considering TikTok's recent shutdown, Tumblr TV currently offers an experience more akin to scrolling through a group text filled with GIFs.
