L2: Empuraan Review – Mohanlal Delivers a Power-Packed Sequel
Read our L2: Empuraan review! Mohanlal returns in this action-packed sequel to Lucifer, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Find out if the film lives up to expectations with its high-octane action, stunning visuals, and gripping storyline.

L2: Empuraan, the much-awaited sequel to the 2019 blockbuster "Lucifer," has finally opened in theaters today, March 27, 2025. Prithviraj Sukumaran directs the film, and the story is written by Murali Gopy. The film continues the saga of Stephen Nedumpally, played by the iconic Mohanlal, and dwells further into his mysterious double life as Khureshi Ab'raam, the kingpin of the dreaded global crime syndicate.
The first audience reactions are incredibly rapturous. They've been singing songs of praise about the engaging narration, high-octane action scenes, and commanding screen presence of Mohanlal himself. One of them mentioned, "Empuraan is a visually mind-blowing, action-packed, and emotionally leveling film that lives up to its hype, even though it's difficult to meet that much-hyped expectation. Empuraan raises the bar—sets a new standard for Malayalam cinema."
Mohanlal's entry into the film has been especially memorable, heaving and echoing about it as a "bang ON entry" with "peak commercial elevation." Special mention has also been given to the unreal visuals and stunts that have been shown in the film, which is by far nothing short of the astute talent of director Prithviraj in the making of Trinidadian cinema.
However, to some viewers, the film is slow-burning in the sense that it takes its first half to develop characters, plowing through the story. The excitement and mass emotions are packed into intervals, and an entry by Mohanlal keeps the viewer hooked and looking forward to part two.
On the face of it, "L2: Empuraan" has lived up to, if not surpassed, the very high expectations set up by its predecessor. With a gripping narrative, stellar performances, and first-rate technical execution, the movie is bound to wreak havoc at the box office and further cement Mohanlal's legacy in Indian cinema.
