BJP Defends Rohit Sharma After Congress Leader's 'Fat' Remark Sparks Controversy
BJP responds to Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed's remark on Rohit Sharma's fitness, defending the Indian cricket captain with a viral post. Congress distances itself from the comment.

Controversial politics began in early March 2025 with Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed and Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian cricket team. After India's victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy, Dr. Mohamed criticized Sharma on social media about his fitness and leadership, "Rohit Sharma is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And of course, the most unimpressive captain India has ever had!".
Lashing back at the above PC remarks, the Bharatiya Janata Party put up on its official X account a gif with the caption, "Unfit samjha kya? Superfit hai main!" tagging Rohit Sharma's face on the hero's avatar in the movie "Pushpa". The post read, "Rohit Sharma's befitting answer to Congress!"
Even the BCCI, in its own right, admonished the behavior of that unfit public publicist by stating that such comments might lower the morale level of the players during one of the important tours.
The Congress, realizing the star repercussions of the statement, ordered Dr. Mohamed to remove the tweet. She obeyed and went ahead to praise captaincy by Rohit Sharma after India's Champions Trophy win for brilliantly playing the game and setting the stage for victory.
