Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at his home in Plains, Georgia, at the age of 100.

Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and served in the Navy until 1953. He then returned to Georgia to manage his family's peanut farming business. His political career began in the Georgia State Senate, followed by a term as the state's governor from 1971 to 1975. In 1976, Carter was elected as the 39th President of the United States, serving from 1977 to 1981.

During his presidency, Carter achieved significant milestones, including brokering the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel and signing the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union. He also established the Departments of Energy and Education. However, his term faced challenges such as the Iran hostage crisis and economic difficulties, which contributed to his defeat in the 1980 election.

After leaving office, Carter dedicated himself to humanitarian efforts, founding the Carter Center in 1982 to promote human rights and alleviate human suffering. His work in global health, democracy promotion, and conflict resolution earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Carter's passing has prompted tributes from leaders worldwide. President Joe Biden described him as "a dear friend and an extraordinary leader," while former President Barack Obama highlighted his "commitment to justice and service." Former President Donald Trump acknowledged Carter's contributions during a pivotal time in American history.

Carter is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away in 2023. Plans for public memorial services are forthcoming, as the nation reflects on the legacy of a leader who dedicated his life to peace, human rights, and public service.
