Michelle Trachtenberg Dead at 39: Hollywood Mourns the ‘Buffy’ and ‘Gossip Girl’ Star

Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress renowned for her roles in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Gossip Girl," was found deceased at 39 in her New York City apartment on February 26, 2025. Authorities responded to a 911 call around 8 a.m., discovering her unconscious and unresponsive; she was pronounced dead at the scene. While the official cause of death is pending, it's reported that she had recently undergone a liver transplant, which may have led to complications. 

Trachtenberg began her acting career at the age of three, gaining early fame with roles in "Harriet the Spy" and "The Adventures of Pete & Pete." She later portrayed Dawn Summers in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and the memorable Georgina Sparks in "Gossip Girl." Her versatility extended to films like "Ice Princess" and "EuroTrip."

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and friends. Blake Lively, her "Gossip Girl" co-star, described her as "fiercely loyal" and "a kind person, through and through." Rosie O'Donnell, who worked with Trachtenberg on "Harriet the Spy," expressed heartbreak, noting, "I loved her very much." David Boreanaz, from "Buffy," shared his sorrow, stating, "So very sad... horrible news."

Neighbors in her Midtown apartment building were shocked by the news, with one stating, "I'm devastated. I didn't even know she lived here." Another recalled seeing her regularly but noted, "It's a shock for sure." 

Trachtenberg's passing has left a significant void in the entertainment industry, with many remembering her as a talented actress and a cherished friend.
