Rajat Patidar Named RCB Captain for IPL 2025, Replacing Faf du Plessis

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajat Patidar has been appointed as the team's captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, succeeding Faf du Plessis. Du Plessis, who led RCB in the previous season, has now joined the Delhi Capitals.

Patidar's elevation to captaincy comes amid widespread speculation that former skipper Virat Kohli might reassume the role. However, the RCB management opted for Patidar, citing his leadership qualities and recent performances. Head coach Andy Flower highlighted Patidar's calm demeanor and focus as pivotal factors in this decision. Flower remarked, "Rajat has the patience to observe everything calmly. No matter how many ups and downs he sees, he does not lose focus on the game."

Patidar has been a consistent performer for RCB and recently captained Madhya Pradesh to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, amassing 428 runs in 10 matches at an average of 61.14 and a strike rate exceeding 186. His leadership in domestic cricket has been instrumental in his rise within the RCB ranks.

Despite stepping down from captaincy in 2021, Virat Kohli was considered for the role. However, team director Mo Bobat noted that Kohli's leadership qualities naturally shine without the captaincy title, and the decision to appoint Patidar was made with the team's future in mind.

Patidar expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized his commitment to leading RCB to their maiden IPL title. He stated, "It's an honor to lead RCB, a team with a rich history and passionate fan base. I look forward to the challenges ahead and aim to bring glory to our supporters."

The cricketing community has largely welcomed Patidar's appointment, viewing it as a forward-looking move that balances experience with fresh leadership. As the IPL 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Patidar to see how he steers RCB in their quest for the elusive championship.
