On February 9, 2025, British singer Ed Sheeran surprised fans in Bengaluru with an impromptu performance on Church Street. As he began singing his hit "Shape of You," a crowd quickly gathered. However, local police intervened, unplugging his microphone and halting the performance due to the absence of official permission.
Sheeran later addressed the incident on Instagram, stating, "We had permission to busk btw, hence us playing in that exact spot, was planned out before, it wasn't just us randomly turning up. All good though. See ya at the show tonight x."
In response, Deputy Commissioner of Police Shekar T Tekkannanavar clarified that permission had been denied due to concerns about crowd congestion on the busy Church Street.
Despite the interruption, Sheeran continued with his scheduled concert in Bengaluru that evening, where he performed alongside Indian singer Shilpa Rao.
